Begun in 2001, the Miss Earth pageant is dedicated to bringing attention to environmental issues. With the slogan "Beauty For a Cause," all Miss Earth contestants are required to have worked for the preservation of the environment. The Miss Earth winner acts as the spokesperson for the Miss Earth Foundation, the United Nations Environment Programme and other similar organizations.
