The Film Independent’s Spirit Awards was the first award to honor independent film exclusively. Now in its 24th year, the Spirit Awards honor Best Feature, Best First Feature, Best Feature Made for Under $500,000 (the John Cassavetes Award), and many more.
The Spirit Awards takes place each year inside a beachfront tent in Santa Monica.
Film Independent is the largest non-profit membership organization for independent filmmakers. Recent winners for Best Feature have also enjoyed great commercial success, including Little Miss Sunshine, Sideways and Brokeback Mountain.
